Buick Motor
Company is certainly one of the pioneers in the American automobile industry.
David Dunbar Buick founded in 1903 the company that introduced the concept of
overhead valve engine. This paved the road for Buick’s successful journey to
the present. In the last century, the company easily became the biggest
carmaker in the country, later making way for the inception of General Motors
Corporation. American culture has always been peppered with iconic Buick cars,
which since 2004 has been the sole North America-based entry-level luxury brand
carried by General Motors. A Buick signifies comfortable elegance without the
ostentatious qualities of more expensive brands. It remains a hallmark of style
and safety in the American car market.
Major Buick Milestones:
1906 – A Buick was the only car to complete a 1000-mile Chicago to New York relay race.
1914 – A Buick was the first car to travel across South America, from Buenos Aires, Argentina through the Andes to Santiago, Chile.
1938 – Buick was the first to come up with a concept car or dream car in the form of a two-place convertible called a Buick Y-Job. Buick supposedly has created more concept cars than any other manufacturer in the world.
Interesting Buick Fact:
Historically, a
Buick was the first American car in China. Capitalizing on this fact, General
Motors recently chose to market the Buick Regal, which is the first non-Asian large
car to achieve popularity in the country.
