General Motors
Corporation is a brand name for trucks, vans and SUVs produced by General
Motors. Formerly known as GMC Truck, this GM division began its course through
history with Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, which was founded in 1901. Some of
the earliest commercial trucks in automotive history were produced by this
company, which was later bought by General Motors in 1909. Merged with Reliance
Motor Car Company, another General Motors acquisition in 1911, Rapid gave way
to the GMC Truck marque in 1912. GMC is second only to Chevrolet regarding
sales of light vehicles under General Motors. GMC vehicles are known for their
power and excellence giving their drivers confidence on the road.
Major GMC Milestones:
1926 – A two ton GMC truck crossed the country from New York to San Francisco in just 5 days.
2001 – GMC produced the Sierra Denali, the first vehicle with Quadrasteer four-wheel steering technology, making for much easier maneuverability.
2007 – GMC introduced the Acadia, a crossover SUV and its first unibody vehicle.
Interesting GMC Fact:
GMC has always
shared technology and make with Chevrolet. For example, the GMC Sprint is
technically a Chevy El Camino with very slight variations. The same goes for
the GMC Sierra and the Chevy Silverado. The main difference was apparent in the
trim and in the engine, hence the higher price for GMC. GMC started deviating
in design in 2007, which is apparent in the 2007 models of the Sierra and the
Silverado.
