Pertaining to the
luxury car division of Nissan, Infiniti was started in 1989 with the purpose of
selling premium vehicles that do not coincide with Nissan’s more mainstream
image. This happened during a time when other Japanese brands were also
breaking into the market with their versions of luxury vehicles (Lexus in
Toyota’s case and Acura in Honda’s). Infiniti has had its ups and downs, but it
has rallied on. It has made some great breakthroughs such as the introduction
of the QX4, the first mid-sized luxury SUV produced by a non-SUV specialist,
and the FX, which Infiniti has dubbed as a Crossover Utility Vehicle or CUV.
Infiniti is committed to producing luxury vehicles that answer the call for
performance, precision and refinement. It also persists in its philosophy of
vibrant design, which guides its workers to craft cars that give a very
rewarding automotive experience.
Major Infiniti Milestones:
1991 – Infiniti brought the first semi-active suspension system into the market.
2002 – Infiniti introduced a rearview back-up camera system in its Q45.
2004 – Infiniti introduced a new Lane Departure Warning system, which made use of a small camera, a speed sensor, an indicator, and a warning buzzer to let drivers know that a vehicle has changed lanes.
Interesting Infiniti Fact:
In 2008, Infiniti
has made XM Radio, the most popular satellite radio provider, a standard for
all its new models. Buyers no longer need to get an upgrade to use this
feature. Infiniti vehicles that have the full vehicle navigation product
installed also have access to the real-time traffic service provided by XM.
