Whether in
politics or automobiles, Lincoln is, without a doubt, a celebrated name.
Founded by Henry M. Leland in 1917, the Lincoln brand was a tribute to Leland’s
personal hero and the first presidential candidate he had voted for upon
reaching voting age. As quickly as it established itself as a premium car
through its qualities of comfort, luxury, and design, Lincoln soon became a
status symbol for the wealthy and privileged. It remains to be a name associated
with classic style and legendary opulence. Under the wings of Ford Motor,
Lincoln continues to bask in its glorious past while embracing the
technological innovations of the future.
Major Lincoln Milestones:
1938 – Lincoln introduced the Continental, its most important car and, according to Frank Lloyd Wright, “the most beautiful car ever made”.
1939 – Lincoln produced the “Sunshine Special”, a 1939 Lincoln V12 convertible and the first car especially built for presidential use.
1974 – Lincoln was the first to introduce the rear-window defrost system.
Interesting Lincoln Fact:
Named for a
president, the Lincoln deserves such an honor for having supplied presidential
limousines for decades. It has also become historic in its own right for being
involved in many important events in American history, such as being the car:
a. in which President Kennedy was assassinated; and
b. the car President Reagan was about to enter when his assassination was attempted.
