Spyker is a Dutch car manufacturer based in Zeewolde in the Netherlands.
The original Spyker company was started in 1880 by two coach builders, Jacobus
and Hendrik-Jan Spijker. From coach building, they moved on to car
manufacturing in 1898 and released their first models of the two-cylinder cars
in 1900.However, the company lost its
funds when Hendrik-Jan Spijker died in a ferry that sank in 1907.
A group of investors acquired the company and
manufactured airplanes and aircraft engines during World War I. The company
went bankrupt in 1929, but its brand name was resurrected by Victor Muller and
Maarten de Bruijn in 2000. Today, Spyker makes exclusive hand-built sports cars
and is an active participant in motorsports.
