Suzuki Motor Corporation, founded by Michio Suzuki in Hamamatsu, Japan, started
out as a manufacturer of motorcycles. It has since added to its production line
and is now a multinational corporation that manufactures a full range of
motorcycles, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV), outboard marine engines, wheelchairs
and other small internal combustion engines. It has 35 main production
facilities in 23 countries and 133 distributors in 192 countries. It currently
employs over 45,000 people and is the 12th largest automobile
manufacturer in the world. It enjoys a reputation for producing vehicles that
are packed with new features and technology.
Major Suzuki Milestones:
1955 – Suzuki ventured into automobiles with the release of “Suzulight”, a lightweight vehicle.
1980 – Suzuki partnered with General Motors. The same alliance later purchased Daewoo in 2004.
2006 – Suzuki Swift was given the RJC (Automotive Researchers' and Journalists' Conference of Japan) “Car of the Year” Award.
Interesting Suzuki Fact:
In Japanese, “Suzuki” is pronounced as soo-zoo-kee with emphasis on a
high “kee”. The common mispronunciation is the stressing of “zoo”.
