A name that
represents luxury and elegance in the automotive world, Jaguar Cars
understandably holds Royal Warrants from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His
Royal Highness Prince Charles. Jaguar originated from the Swallow Sidecar
Company, which was founded in 1922 by motorcycle enthusiasts William Lyons and
William Walmsley in Blackpool, England. In 1935, one of the company’s manufactured sedans was given the name
Jaguar and ten years later, the entire company adopted the name. However, it
wasn’t until the ‘50s that Jaguar began to establish a name for itself in the
business of luxury cars. Recently fully acquired by India’s Tata Motors, Jaguar
remains among the top ranking premium performance car brands in the world.
Major Jaguar Milestones:
1954 – Jaguar Cars North America began to sell cars throughout Canada, the US and Mexico.
1961 – Jaguar introduced the E-type, a design which influenced automobile stylists for decades.
2005 – Jaguar introduced the pedestrian safety system in its XKR sports car, the first car with a “Deployable Bonnet System.”
Interesting Jaguar Fact:
The Daimler
marque has no connection with the German Daimler-Benz company. It was, in fact,
a brand acquired by Jaguar in the ‘60s and its sedans were really just rebadged
Jaguar cars.
