2009 Maserati Granturismo

Fast and elegant, Maserati is a luxury car that boasts of its exceptional performance, engineering and design. The Societa Anonime Officine Alfieri Maserati was founded by the five Maserati brothers. They had been building cars for Diatto, another Italian company. But, in 1926 they severed ties with it and began building the first car under the Maserati marque. Despite going through several ownerships, Maserati has remained a leading name in the world of racing and high performance luxury cars.

Major Maserati Milestones:

1933 – Maserati introduced hydraulic brakes on its race cars, the first European manufacturer to do so. It was also a great year for Maserati in the racing world. It won 2 Grandes Épreuves (French and Belgian) as well as three other grand prix (Montenero, Nice, and Brooklands).

1963 – Maserati launched the Quattroporte, its first four-door car.

1971 – Maserati introduced the Bora, the first mass-produced mid-engined Maserati.

Interesting Maserati Fact:

During the Second World War, Maserati stopped producing cars to focus on contributing to the Italian government’s war efforts. Around this time, there was a fierce rivalry between Maserati and Volkswagen to complete a V16 towncar for their respective leaders. Both failed to do so.
