Maybach is not a
name that the average person recognizes. It usually takes a true car enthusiast
with discriminating tastes to know that this car brand is one of the most
luxurious and elegant on the market. Maybach was named for its founder, Wilhelm
Maybach, who started the company in 1909. Maybach initially manufactured
engines for Zeppelins and rail cars, but in 1919, it finally built its first
car. This, however, was not launched until two years later. Maybach continued
both lines of production until World War II happened. After this, the company
stopped making cars. It seemed as though that was the end of Maybach
automobiles, but in 1997 Mercedes-Benz resurrected the name with a concept car
they called Mercedes-Benz Maybach. This event spurred Mercedes-Benz to revive
Maybach as a car brand. These days, it is the epitome of opulence in the
automotive world.
Major Maybach Milestones:
1954 – A Maybach built by a Repco team, and, driven by Stan Jones, won the New Zealand Grand Prix.
2005 - Maybach became the first automobile to be awarded the Five Star Diamond Award for three consecutive years by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences. This had also named it the “Automobile of the Century”.
2008 – Maybach won Russia’s Car of the Year Award in the Premium Executive Class.
Interesting Maybach Fact:
Ordering a
Maybach is pretty much like ordering a custom-built yacht. It is very unlikely
that Maybach owners will have identical cars. Each car can be customized to
meet all of the specifications of the owner and may even be personalized with
initials or coats of arms.
